KIRKLAND, Wash. -- Kirkland Police are now calling Wednesday's death of a 19-year-old woman a homicide, and officers have a person of interest. Thursday night, family and friends of Scarlett Paxton gathered for a candlelight vigil.

Paxton's boyfriend Michael Lawson told KING 5 News, She was my everything, and she made a lot of people happy in her life in her short time here.

Paxton's father Ernet, said he may never get the answers he wants into why his daughter was murdered.

Investigators said the person of interest, a 19-year-old male, who has not been identified yet, is in police custody on unrelated charges. Police won't say much about the person of interest, but they are convinced he is responsible.

Wednesday around 3:00 a.m., victim Scarlett Paxton was found by her boyfriend at her apartment with a stab wound to her neck, bleeding to death. Paramedics were unable to save Paxton.

The apartment is located in the 13000 block of 100th Place Northeast. Police said Paxton was assaulted on the second floor landing of the apartment.

According to police, Paxton and her boyfriend went for a walk in the area around 1:00 a.m. At some point, they went seperate ways and Paxton went home.

Additional evidence in the case was found outside a nearby Albertson's store. Police said a kitchen knife was found during a search, but it is unknown whether it was used in the homicide.

At the vigil, friends struggled toput their loss into perspective. Camille Steurman said, She was a really kindperson.
