SEATTLE -- More than $131,000 has been raised for the final wish of a 9-year-old girl who died after last week's multiple car crash on Interstate 90.
Rachel Beckwith passed away over the weekend after suffering critical injuries in the 15-vehicle collision in Bellevue Wednesday.
Rachel'' family said she did have a final wish. She had been raising money for Charity Water, a charity that provides water to developing countries.
Rachel's goal was to raise $300 by her ninth birthday on June 12, but she fell $80 short.
Over the weekend, Eastlake Church in Bothell decided to publicize her fundraising mission. And the donations started flowing in, raising about $1,000 an hour for the charity. By early Monday afternoon, $131,176 had been raised for her cause.
Even in her last hours, Rachel was teaching others to give.
I've learned that I need to act now, that I need to be selfless, and out of my selflessness I can make a difference, said Jeremy Johnson, the teaching pastor at Eastlake Church.
