OLYMPIA, Wash. -- A Tacoma fisherman is under investigation accused of illegally harvesting a shark in the south Puget Sound.
Fish and Wildlife officers seized the jaws of the sixgill shark from the man earlier this month.
I think this one was somewhere between eight and 10 feet in size, said Sgt. Carl Klein.
Klein said the man told investigators he was fishing near Tacoma's Point Defiance Park when he spotted a sick shark floating on the surface.
Word spread around about someone might have taken the head and remove the jaw as a memento, said Klein.
Klein expected the fisherman to be cited and charged by the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.
He could face a fine up to $1,000.
