San Francisco is getting new trains for its BART system and the interior colors are reminding 49ers fans of a certain division rival to the north.
That s almost an exact replica of Seahawks colors! It s uncanny. What, are they going to have all station stops announced by Richard Sherman too? It s not as if Seattle has generic, everyday colors, like the Buffalo Bills, New Orleans Saints or New York Giants. That bright green and blue is as distinctive as it gets in the NFL.
This drew the attention of Nasir Safdar, who created a Change.org petition that has almost 1,500 signatures:
To outfit BART car seats in the team colors of the Seattle Seahawks (i.e. neon green and blue) is an outrage and a slap in the face of every San Francisco 49ers fan who rides BART. We call upon BART General Manager Grace Crunican (who oddly enough worked as Director of the Seattle Department of Transportation prior to joining BART) to scrap plans to adorn BART car seats in neon green and blue and instead choose other colors.
Excellent research tidbit in the second parenthetical. Relevant or not, that s the sort of incendiary fact that gets people clicking on petitions like crazy.
Aside from the seats being Seahawks colors, the seats are an affront to all civic-minded San Franciscans in that Seahawks colors are ugly even without that added NFC West stigma. Who has bright green subway seats?
If the design isn t changed, there s some time before Bay Area transit riders will have to be reminded of Seattle every time they board a train. The full fleet won t be replaced until 2021, just in time for Russell Wilson to really be hitting his stride.
