SEATTLE -- A group of Seattle teenagers is getting into the holiday spirit by inspiring others to perform 1,000 acts of kindness through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Visitor Center.

The group of 30 high school students is using the power of social media through Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #TheGiveEffect to spread their mission and campaign.

The teenagers are encouraging small-to-large acts of kindness in the community from stopping bullying to buying a stranger coffee.

It can be as small as smiling at a stranger or helping a neighbor with the lawn, said Dajeanne Washington with The Give Effect project.

The Give Effect campaign is holding a free Family Day event on Saturday at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Visitor Center at 440 5th Avenue N. in Seattle from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
