An ambitious 18-year-old is spending her summer vacation helping others by making chic fashion accessible.
Allyson Ahlstrom of Santa Rosa, Calif. is touring the country and giving away brand new clothing to underprivileged girls. On Thursday Ahlstrom's hot pink Threads for Teens mobile boutique made a stop in Seattle and gave 20 girls new outfits.
I think it's awesome because it's clothes that young girls like me actually wear, said Reiterea, who visited the Threads for Teens bus in Seattle on Thursday. It's not like clothes that people throw away and don't wear.
Ahlstrom came up with idea for the project in 2010, when she was 14. In addition to the tour bus, Ahlstrom runs a full-service boutique in Windsor, California that given brand-new outfits to girls in need for the past three years.
Iam not too young. Ineed to get out there, Ineed to do something, Ahlstrom said. I was really into fashion when I was 14 years old, when I started this, so my love my fashion and love of service merged and here we are.
Her bus tour kicked off on May 29 in Los Angeles and will conclude on August 5 in Burlington, Vermont -- just in time for her to start school at the University of Pennsylvania in the fall.
