The latest scientific research on calcium supplements indicates they could increase lifespan in women.
The finding is from a long-term study of more than 9,000 people in Canada. Researchers there say they found a lower risk of an early death among women taking calcium supplements. The link remained for those who got their calcium from their diet.
More research is needed and experts recommend talking to your doctor to see if calcium may be beneficial.
Earlier this year, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force found no benefit to the supplements.
The study will appear in the July 2013 issue of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.
