A 9-year-old boy was rescued from the Pilchuck River Friday and airlifted to Children's Hospital in Seattle for medical treatment.

According to the Snohomich County Sheriff's Department, the boy's mother called 911 around 2 p.m. after the boy went under water and did not come back up to the surface.

Family members and bystanders began searching for the boy, and bystander found the boy and pulled him to the river bank. Witnesses said the boy was underwater for at least 5 minutes.

The incident occurred near the 12700 block of Dubuque Road.

Family members began to administer CPR. The boy's status at this time is unknown.
