NEAR GIG HARBOR, Wash. -- Pierce County Sheriff s detectives are investigating a homicide north of Gig Harbor after a man s body was found in tall grass in a marsh.

A couple walking their dog found the body in the 14900 block of 82nd Avenue Northwest.

The man had no identification, but the sheriff s office says he is a dark-skinned man in his 40s and had extreme trauma. An autopsy could be performed as early as Friday.

Investigators don t know for sure how long the body has been there, but it could have been there a month.

Locals are shocked to see potential for big city crime in their quiet neighborhood.

A trauma, a murder, it s probably not a random thing, said resident Katie Kennedy.

It would make me think that it s probably someone who lived around here. I doubt it would be anybody that was new to the area, but it is a good place to hide things, said resident Adam Mort.

The Pierce County Sheriff s Department is checking to see if the victim matches the description of any known missing persons.
