TIGARD, Ore. A Tigard police officer who crashed his car into a vehicle and then into a house was not to blame, investigators said Tuesday.
The incident occurred in early September. Investigators said officer Caleb Phillips, 34, crashed into the car at the intersection of SW Walnut Street and SW Watkins Street. Then, the patrol car left the roadway and struck a nearby house.
Phillips was responding to an emergency call with his lights and sirens activated when the crash occurred, according to investigators with the Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team.
A man was inside the home when the car hit it, but he was not injured.
The officer and the two occupants of the other car suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.
The report released by the crash analysis reconstruction team said that the driver of the other car was to blame in the crash. Clyde Allen Rizzutto, 65, of Tigard will be cited for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle, according to Jim Wolf with the Tigard Police Department.
Investigators said the crash could have been prevented, if Rizzutto had pulled to the right.
