KENT,Wash. -- People who live in the suburb of Kent are fed up with gangs making their neighborhoods unsafe.
The city saw a surge in violence over the weekend, starting when 13 people were shot at a car show on Saturday. Gang expert Gabriel Morales called it one of the largest gang shootings in Washington's history.
An intelligence document circulating in the King County Sheriff's Office shows police believe there was a retaliation shooting later that night at a Kent apartment complex. The document says the man shot is in a gang.
KING 5 News went to the complex Tuesday afternoon and met a man claiming to be the person who was shot, but he denied it was gang related.
Just hours later, early Sunday morning, there was a stabbing at the Taqueria El Rinconcito restaurant. According to the King CountySheriff's document, there were gang members present there too.
It's getting really old, said Ryan Murray, who owns a business right across the street from the taqueria.
Police officers are being warned to be vigilant and expect gang members to be armed. As far as the public is concerned, Morales said it is concerning that gang members are spraying gunfire in public places, but that gang members usually target each other. He said more retaliation shootings are possible.
