SEATTLE -- The last time Kimberly Peterson saw her husband of nearly 22 years, she remembers David leavingfor his daily walk around their Greenwood neighborhood Sunday night.

He went out the back door and said, 'I'll be back in an hour.' And he just didn't come back home, she said.

Later that evening, Seattle police officers found David dead from a single gunshot wound, after he'd called 9-1-1 to report he'd been robbed.

One o'clock I'm trying to call him and I texted him, 'Where are you?' Kimberly remembered.

Kimberly got no response. When she called 9-1-1 to report him missing around 3 am, she says she told dispatchers, he'd left at 11pm. According to Kimberly, a dispatcher told her they'd received no reports around that time.

In fact, David was killed nearly 3 hours earlier around 8:30 pm.

I was fuzzy on the time that he left because I so don't think about time. I don't keep track, she said.

Kimberly began checking the King County Jail website for inmates, even though she describes David as a law abiding citizen. She says she was desperate for any information.

It wasn't until Kimberly checked the Seattle police blotter soon after that she read about a man shot less than a mile from their home.

I knew at the time, that had to be him, Kimberly said. I kind of had a feeling that something was going on, something has happened.

The couple moved to Seattle from California two years ago. Kimberly says David's wallet with identification was still on him when he was found, and detectives are tracking his cell phone, which was stolen.

I was his best friend and he was my best friend, Kimberly said. I want to prevent something like this from happening to anybody else, because the pain that I'm going through right now, I don't want anybody else to go through this.
