SAMMAMISH, Wash. - Friday afternoon a homeless camp called TentCity4 found a new location just in time.
The group of 50 homeless men and women spent the last 90 days in tents set up behind Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Parish in Sammamish. The invitation to stayat the church runs out on Saturday at 8 o'clock in the morning.
The group had nowhere to go, according to TentCity4 organizers. However, late Friday afternoon they found a solution.
In a press release from the TentCity4 Site Search Committee, it states, we are thrilled to let you know TentCity4 has been given provisional permission to camp for 20 days at the Hans Jensen Campsite, which is part of Lake Sammamish State Park.
Virginia Painter, Communications Director for Washington State Parks, said TentCity4 will be treated like any other group that wants to stay at a Lake Sammamish State Park campsite. They will have to pay the fee and follow park rules, and they are allowed to stay a maximum of 20 days.
We can't complain about that. I don't think anybody in their right mind would, said camper Chris Bolden.
Campers said they are grateful for the new site and for community donations which will help pay for their stay.
