New developments are popping up all over Seattle, but a group of neighbors in the Queen Anne neighborhood say a development that is proposed there just won t fit.
Toll Brothers is planning to turn a 2.5-acre lot of the former Seattle Children s Home into 66 townhomes.
The group Future Queen Anne says it does not fit with the character of the neighborhood. The group is concerned about safety from increased traffic, losing century-old trees and setting the wrong tone for future development across Seattle.
It sets a precedent, a precedent not only for our neighborhoods, but many other neighborhoods, said Dan Evans, who started the Future Queen Anne group. Again, how we manage growth in a smart way or in a way in which we run over neighborhoods and develop in a way that s not consistent with community character.
The group is collecting signatures to get the mayor stop the development. Any decisions from the city s planning board on whether the project can move forward are still several weeks away.
Calls and emails to Toll Brothers were not immediately returned Saturday
