Some living in the South witnessed a spectacular light show this week.

A high-resolution camera captured this image of a Capricornid meteor, part of the Alpha Capricornids shower that starts as early as July 15and lasts until around August 10.

NASA managed to snap the photo and said the meteor traveled at about 54,000 miles per hour.

It was first spotted about 50 miles above Alabama. It then moved north before burning up in a flash of light about 50 miles above Tennessee.
