HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -- At least 15 people were rushed to area hospitals after an attack on the campus of Lone Star College Cy-Fair, according to the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department. Four of those victims were critically injured.
Three victims were treated at the scene.
A witness said there were two guys running down the hallway and randomly stabbing students in the Health and Science Center. Other students rushed to help the victims until emergency crews arrived. One was bleeding profusely, according to the witness.
Other victims were reportedly attacked in the technology building. The Harris County Sheriff s Office would only confirm that some of the injured victims were stabbed.
A male suspect was detained by Cy-Fair ISD police, according to HCSO. They are searching for at least one other suspect. He is described as a white male with shoulder-length brown hair, dressed in black with a backpack, according to unconfirmed police scanner reports.
Six victims were taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital four by Life Flight helicopters and two by ambulance.
North Cypress Medical Center confirms that it has received six patients. The campus is on lockdown, according to Lone Star officials.
Seek shelter now. If away, stay away, the school said in a text to students.
This is an emergency. Everybody stay inside of your rooms. Do not leave your rooms, said an announcement made over the loud speakers of campus buildings.
Students say every car leaving the area is being searched.
One student who was trying to exit the campus said one of her classmates was stabbed.
I had just left class out of the HSC [Health Science Center] building, and as we were leaving we saw the cops coming. I called to check on another classmate who was still inside the building and she said the classroom was on lockdown and she said one of the classmates had been stabbed, said Margo Shimfarr-Evans. It happened in the hallway.
Several parents rushed to the campus after hearing about the stabbings.
Basically, I m frantic. I m scared out of my mind, said one mother whose daughter is locked in a classroom. Even though she s 21, she s still my baby. As soon as she gets out, I m going to give her a hug and kiss.
Another mother named Janice was relieved to hear from her son.
They won t allow them out of the classroom and they ve assured them that no one can get into the classroom without a key, she said. They are just sitting and waiting while the police collect the evidence and try to calm everyone else in the classroom.
He was praying and he knew that the Lord was protecting him, said the student s father.
People were shot at another Lone Star College campus in January.
