TUMWATER, Wash . -- A 13-year-old boy will return to juvenile court Monday afternoon to be charged with first degree murder in the death of his father.

According to deputies, the 13-year-old suspect shot and killed his father, Jimmie Asher Jr., with a .17 rifle while the man slept in his bed.

Thurston County prosecutors agreed to amend the charges based on a recommendation from the sheriff's office.

After interviewing witnesses, detectives said some sort of disagreement transpired between the suspect and victim. Family members maintain the shooting was an accident.

Deputies said the suspect changed his story several times and attempted to concealed evidence.
