SPOKANE, Wash. -- Steven Broersma scored 11 of his 24 points in the final six minutes to carry Sunnyside Christian to its second-straight Class 1B boys state championship, a 55-50 victory over Neah Bay on Saturday.

Broersma's two foul shots with nine seconds left secured the victory for the Knights (25-2), who earned their fourth title in five years. Drexler Doherty tied a 1B tournament record with 31 points for the Red Devils (23-6).

Leading 53-50 with 11 seconds left, Sunnyside Christian missed the front end of a one-and-one, but Broersma grabbed the rebound, was fouled and sank both foul shots to put the game out of reach. The 6-foot-6 senior, who was 9-of-12 from the floor, also pulled down 10 rebounds.

Doherty scored 16 of Neah Bay's 18 first-quarter points and the Red Devils led by as many as seven early on. But Sunnyside Christian rallied in the second quarter, outscoring Neah Bay 13-3 to close the first half and grab a 31-25 lead.

Sunnyside Christian opened a 36-29 lead midway through the third quarter on Alex Brouwer's shot in the lane. Neah Bay answered with six straight points and trailed 36-35 after Michael Dulik's move inside with 2:25 left. The Red Devils managed to tie the game at 40-all midway through the fourth quarter, but could never grab a lead.
