SEATTLE--The U.S. Department of Justice held private meetings with Seattle community groups Tuesday as part of an investigation into possible civil rights violations by the Seattle Police Department.

The private meetings with local community groups are being held at an undisclosed location in Seattle, according to the American Civil LibertiesUnion.

The ACLU asked the federal government to investigateprocedures, policies, and trainingof Seattle Police officers after a series ofhighlypublicized incidents involving SPD and members ofminority communities.

Seattle Police Chief John Diaz and Seattle Mayor Mike McGinnareexpectedto meet with the federal officials this week.
