DUVALL The last time singer-songwriter Austin Jenckes played in his hometown of Duvall, he was still on the NBC singing competition The Voice . It was a hometown celebration for a musician on the verge of stardom.

Jenckes said he was surprised at the attention he drew last fall, and by the number of people who showed up to listen to him perform.

Since then, he s traveled all over the country doing what he loves best.

He s been on tour, playing in places like New York, Texas, and California.

It was while he was on tour that Jenckes learned about the deadly landslide in Oso.

I was immediately like Oh God. It s one of those things that nobody can prepare for, he said. It just kind of hit me because it could have happened in Duvall.

The rural communities here in Washington are very similar.

Jenckes immediately wanted to help. He teamed up with the Duvall Rotary Club to organize a benefit concert. All revenue from ticket sales will go to the North Counties Relief Fund.

I hope that it can raise as much attention as possible. There are still people missing. With something of that magnitude, I think it is important for people to continue to try and help. They are still going to be needing help six months from now . I hope that I can keep the momentum going. We need to be helping these people, Jenckes said.
