The union representing more than 450 Seattle school bus drivers say the drivers are preparing to strike over, what it says, are unfair labor practices.
Teamsters Local 174 says First Student broke off talks and ended negotiations. The union claims First Student s proposals are illegal and that the company is trying push employee health care costs on to taxpayers. Another sticking point is retirement benefits.
The drivers have been working without a contract since last June, according to the union.
In a statement, First Student said, First Student is continuing to negotiate in good faith with Teamsters Local #174. We are confident we will reach an agreement that is in the best interest of all parties. Our next negotiation meeting is set for February 27.
The union did not say when the strike would begin. Students are on mid-winter break this week. The strike could impact around 28,000 students.
