Shane and Melissa Ross were hospitalized in different hospitals after being injured in a fire that destroyed their home on Tuesday.

Today, Shane was released from one hospital, and with help from his mother, went straight to see Melissa in another. It was the first time they had seen each other since the fire.

After they awoke to the fire, they didn't know if they would see each other or their three daughters, ages 10, 6 and 2, again.

The fire broke on only the couple's second night in their new home, but they were focused on saving their daughters, not their dream house.

Melissa ran to their outside window, but it was covered in bars.

I grabbed hold of the bars and put my feet on the wall and just yanked them off, and then pulled my daughters out, she said.

Reminders of her efforts and love will scar her arms.

I don't think that I'm a hero at all, she said. I just think that I'm a mom who loves her kids enough not to leave them in a burning house.

Her oldest daughter wanted to show her gratitude towards mom on her birthday.

The card read, A special card for you...I love you and thank you. If you hadn't of been there with us we would have died. You're the best mom I could ever wish for. Thank you so much.

For a family that lost everything, they know the first thing they'll hang on their walls.

A fund has been set up for donations for the Ross family at Chase Bank.
