Lakewood police released a photo Wednesday of a very realistic looking metal cap gun they say a suspect was holding before he was shot and killed last week by officers.

Police said in a written statement that they were looking for Patrick O Meara, 28, on June 18 for an outstanding felony arrest warrant for theft.

Officers learned he was at a home in the Tillicum-Lakewood area. When they approached the home, they allegedly saw O Meara inside armed with a gun. Police said he refused repeated orders to drop the gun.

At some point, he refused and forced officers to fire their weapons, said police. The statement did not indicate if O Meara raised or fired the gun.

Officers found O Meara with gunshot wounds. They performed CPR until medics arrived, but O Meara died at the scene.

The two officers who fired their weapons were placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard when officers fire their weapons. One is a 30-year-old man who has about 8 and a half years of law enforcement experience. The other is a 36-year-old man with about 13 years in law enforcement.

Police say Lakewood PD Major Crimes detectives and the Cooperative Cities Crime Response Unit are investigating the shooting, along with an investigator for the Pierce County prosecutor s office.
