23-year-old Thurston County woman dies from complications with the flu
This young woman's death is a sad reminder that the flu must be taken seriously, said Dr. Diana Yu, Health Officer for Thurston County. We're encouraging unvaccinated people of all ages to talk to their doctor about getting a flu vaccine. It's not too late to get vaccinated.
Dr. Yu says the health department learned the woman's symptoms started at the end of January. She died five days later. It appears she never received a flu shot.
The flu shot is not 100 percent but it is the best bullet we have to fight against influenza, said Dr. Yu.
