SEATTLE - State transportation officials say a recently built bridge pillar on the new Highway 520 project will be destroyed and rebuilt because part of the concrete exterior was too thin.

Transportation spokeswoman Suanne Pelley said Friday that the flawed column is one of 10 poured this fall.

The Seattle Times reports that (http://is.gd/RP2nUZ) the contractor, Kiewit-General-Manson, is replacing the pillar at its own expense.

The Highway 520 floating bridge extends from Seattle to Redmond.
