One person died in house fire in Suquamish on Monday.

North Kitsap Fire & Rescue and Poulsbo Fire Department crews were called to a home on Balzow Road near its intersection with South Angeline Avenue at 12:29 on Monday after a neighbor noticed flames coming from the residence.

The first unit arrived on the scene in less than 10 minutes. Firefighters pushed through the gate and saw only light smoke visible from the structure. But, moments later, the officer s walk-around revealed heavy fire coming from the side of the home facing the water.

One crew quickly put out the flames while another crew began a search of the structure. Almost immediately, the victim was found inside but crews were unable to resuscitate.

Three dogs also lived at the residence; two were located safely and are in the care of neighbors while the third is thought to have run away. It is unknown if the dogs were in the residence or outside the home at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
