TACOMA, Wash. (AP) -- Garret Sawyer scored 10 points, including a four-point play that gave Central Valley the lead for good, as the Bears beat Garfield 53-52 Thursday in a quarterfinal game at the state 4A boys basketball tournament at the Tacoma Dome.

Garfield led 46-44 with 1:33 to go when Sawyer hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key and added a free throw to give Central Valley the lead for good at 48-46. The Bears (21-3) were 3 for 4 from the free-throw line in the final 22 seconds to hold on.

Gaven Deyarmin led the Bears with 14 points and seven rebounds.

Only four players scored for the Bulldogs (19-6). Tucker Haymond led the way with 17 points and eight rebounds. Pierre Wright scored 13 for Garfield, Trevaunte Williams scored 12 and Daniel Greer had 10 points.
