SEATTLE University of Washington men's basketball coach LorenzoRomar publicly acknowledged rape allegations facing one of his playersTuesday, but did not reveal anything about the criminal investigation.

It's very serious, Romar told the media Tuesday. However there is not enough information for us to determine what's going to be done here.

Seattle Police are currently investigating a prominent UW men s basketball player, who hasbeen accused bya 16-year-old girl of rape.

Adversity is always interesting how people handle it, so we will see, Romar said.

The player is not being named because no charges have been filed.

According to the police report, the alleged victim told her mother that she was going to the movies at Bellevue Square Mall with her friend and stated that she lied about going to the movies.

Instead, the police report says she met the basketball player at his sister's apartment near Garfield High School and that's where the alleged rape happened.

It's something we take very seriously, Romar said.

The team is scheduled to play Thursday night at Stanford and is currently ranked 17th in the country by the Associated Press.

KING 5's Mimi Jung and Chris Daniels contributed to this report.
