OCEAN SHORES -- A California teen is presumed drowned after helping friends who were caught in a rip current while surfing in Ocean Shores Saturday.

The Ocean Shores Police Department has identified the man as Renelle Paul Alimoren of Pomona, Calif.

The Coast Guard says eight people from California got caught in a rip current around 8 p.m. Saturday. Five people were able to get to shore without trouble. Two of the surfers barely made it back and had to be treated on scene.

Authorities say Alimoren helped two of his friends to shore before being swept out again.
