Mayor Cy Sun suffered another setback Friday after a Pierce County judge refused to force city employees to stop talking to the media.

Tyler Firkins, Sun s personal attorney, said the reason for the media circus in the courtroom was due to repeated contact between employees and city council members with the media. However, the mayor of Pacific has also conducted numerous interviews with reporters on his own.

Superior court judge Garold Johnson denied several of Sun s requests, including forcing the city attorney to follow the mayor s orders.

Firkins argued that city attorney Ken Luce should be representing the mayor s interests, not just those of the city and city council. Judge Johnson told Firkins he could not tell an attorney how to do his job.

Johnson also refused to order the Pacific City Council to set aside money to pay a private investigation agency to look into three whistleblower complaints.

Meanwhile, supporters of a recall effort against the mayor started collecting petition signatures.

I am excited to sign this, said one resident. We have been waiting a long time.

Darlene Smith has called Pacific home for ten years. Thursday night she asked, how can one man come into a city and destroy it.

Smith is so upset about the situation she said she planned to spend the weekend collecting signatures for the recall effort.

Mayor Sun has said repeatedly he would not step down.
