COLVILLE, Wash. -- Firefighters battled a large structure fire that gutted a furniture store in downtown Colville Saturday night.

Flames broke out at Saundra s Furniture at 279 South Main around 8:00 p.m.

Firefighters worked overnight and into Sunday putting out hot spots. Fire investigators were expected to go through the building to determine a cause once the hot spots were completely out.

Highway 395 through downtown was reopened Sunday morning after it had been shut down for hours while crews battled the fire.

Witnesses said flames shot 30 to 40 feet in the air.

All ten members of Colville s volunteer fire department worked to put out the flames.
The building is destroyed, along with everything inside.

The business owners were on scene with their insurance adjuster early Sunday afternoon.
The store closed at 6:00 p.m. Saturday. Police said no one was inside the building when the fire started.

No one was hurt.

Colville Police are not commenting as to whether they think the fire is suspicious.

According to Saundra s website, the furniture store had more than 40,000 square feet of merchandise in stock. The company was having an Anniversary Sale.

Saundra s serviced the areas of Republic, Chewelah, Arden, Deer Park, Loon Lake, Valley, Deep Lake, Northport, Spokane, Colville, Kettle Falls, Addy, WA, Washington, Grand Forks, Trail, BC, British Columbia.
