A pedestrian walking along southbound Interstate 5 was struck by a car and killed Monday night near Arlington.

A Tulalip woman, who had left her vehicle after being involved in an accident, attempted to cross the interstate on foot but was struck by a vehicle traveling south near milepost 210.

Investigators discovered that the 23-year-old woman had been driving a 2003 Ford minivan when she was involved in a two-car collison at 236th Street and 19th Avenue in Snohomish County.

She fled the scene and headed south on Interstate 5, but damage to the her car forced the woman to pull over.

For unknown reasons, she attempted to cross the freeway and was struck by a Jeep Cherokee.

The woman died at the scene as a result of her injuries. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are involved at this time.
