Workers say the seven chimpanzees at a sanctuary near Cle Elum grew very silent August 13 when flames and fire fighters surrounded their home.

The home was spared from the devastation of the Taylor Bridge Fire, but due to safety concerns, the chimps were kept inside for nearly three weeks.

On Friday, the staff at Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest felt is was time to let them out and the chimps obviously agreed.

Once the door to the huge outdoor area was opened, they sped across it and climbed on the rocks and play structures.

The workers also scattered fruits and vegetables around the yard for the chimps to track down and enjoy.

One thing that was lost in the fire was a troll doll that the chimp named Foxie carried around. She has a new doll that she took with her out in the yard.
