The Internet has gone absolutely crazy for Erin Andrews epic interview with Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman following the Seahawks 23-17 NFC Championship win over San Francisco Sunday night.

To quickly recap, Sherman set up the interception by linebacker Malcolm Smith to seal the Seahawks trip to the Super Bowl. Following the play, Sherman mocked 49ers receiver Michael Crabtree. And the two continued their fight via Twitter late into the night.

After the game-winning play, Andrews knew she had to get Sherman for the live postgame interview. And she certainly did.

He never threatened me, he never cussed at me or the camera and I was never frightened to be honest with you, she told the Dan Patrick Show Monday.

But she does have a small battle wound from the postgame scrum.

I cut my way in to grab him because I knew they were going to take the interview, she said. He just bear-hugged me because he was so excited and I hit my chin on his pads and I was like, Oh god, am I bleeding? So it was just so much raw, candid emotion at once.

Immediately following the interview and all day Monday, Twitter erupted with negative commentary on how Sherman handled himself, when really he was just riding on adrenaline because he made a career-defining play to help his team go to the Super Bowl. It s the kind of moment reporters live for.

Dan, how much have you and I wanted a moment like that where an athlete didn t say, We re playing Seahawks ball, We re taking it play-by-play, game-by-game, this is what we wanted, Andrews said. He lost his mind and it was awesome for once, you know?

During the emotional interview, Sherman yelled, I m the best corner in the game. When you try me with a sorry receiver like Crabtree, that s the result you gonna get. Don t you ever talk about me. [...] Don t you open your mouth about the best or I m gonna shut it for you real quick.

Andrews followed up by asking who was talking about him, but said she tried to think of other questions or other ways to transition the interview.

I had a feeling who he was talking about, but I didn t want people to think anyone in the media or I had said it, she said. So I was like, do I ask him who is talking about him, or do I try to get out of this and say, Hey, you had told us this week you re not allowing yourself to think about New York. You just saved the game for the Seahawks. So I was trying to think, Do I follow up or what do I do?

Of course Andrews only had seconds to think, and she handled the situation professionally.

Patrick concluded his interview with Andrews by asking if she thinks Sherman will be this animated for the Super Bowl on Feb. 2.

I hope so, she said. We don t want him toned down.

Here s to hoping Super Bowl week means more raw Richard Sherman.
