Starting Saturday, Nov. 9th, Alaska Airlines passengers could begin using their tablets, book readers and other personal electronic devices on flights.
Under FAA rules passengers need to place their electronic devices in airplane mode, according to an Alaska Air news release. Cell phones can't be used for calls and devices must be turned off when requested by crew members.
Laptops and larger devices need to be stowed away during takeoff and landing to prevent any safety hazards.
Customers will be able to connect to Wi-Fi once the jet reaches 10,000 feet.
Air travelers on Alaska Airlines flights operated by Horizon Air are expected to be able to use their electroic devices on flights starting next week and on flights operated by SkyWest soon after, pending FAA approval.
