Police took one man into custody after an almost eight-hour standoff in Bellevue. He was holed up in his apartment after 911 calls said he pointed a gun at a neighbor.

Police were called to the Bellefield Manor Apartments at 1830 108th Avenue SE around 2 a.m. Thursday.

Police say the man invited his neighbor over to play chess and for some drinks. The neighbor said at some point the man became upset and pointed a gun to the neighbor's head. The guest ran out of the apartment and called 911.

Police officers and a SWAT team immediately responded, setting up a perimeter and evacuating neighbors. They tried to negotiate for hours to get the man to come out and at one point used what appeared to be flash bangs and gas grenades.

I woke up to gunshots, said Anita Mousseau, resident. Then there was boom boom boom and there was a lady police command that said, 'Come up with your hands up, drop your gun, come out.'

During the standoff, neighboring apartment units were evacuated. Streets around the complex were closed by police as well as the ramps from Interstate 90 to Bellevue Way. Those ramps have since re-opened.

Negotiators were able to convince the man to comply with police and officers entered the apartment and took him into custody without incident.
