TheAmerican Medical Association said on Tuesday that it would support a ban on marketing energy drinks to those under 18 years old.

The group, which represents 225,000 doctors in the United States, endorsed a policy that would limit how the caffeinated drinks are sold to youths at the association's annual meeting in Chicago.

Energy drinks have been under scrutiny after being linked to deaths and hospitalizations. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said in October that it was looking into five deaths that may be associated with Monster Beverage Corp's drink, Monster. Members of Congress have called for more information on the drinks' ingredients and how they could impact health.
