Students past and present came to say goodbye to Jean Haavig, who is retiring after working for more than 40 years in the front office of Seattle's Olympic Hills Elementary.

She was the familiar voice who answered the phone at the school for nearly half a century. Before she was a secretary, she was a mother on the Parent Teacher Association and worked in the library.

She has been a part of Olympic Hills Elementary since 1961.

Now that she's retired, Haavig said she plans to volunteer and spend more time with her granddaughter.
