CAMANO ISLAND, Wash. - Hundreds of volunteers on Sunday put the finishing touches on a 10,000-square-foot playground.

From a Viking ship to a cherry blossom climbing wall, organizers say the design represents all facets of the Camano Island and Stanwood communities.

And it's those communities that came out -more than 1,000 since Monday - painting, drilling, and putting together the playground in what people fondly compare to an old fashioned barn-raising.

It's exciting, to come here with my grandkids on Monday and see only posts on the ground and on Wednesday when we began, it's tremendous, really fun to watch, said volunteer Ray Mamales.

The $200,000 project was funded by donations from families and businesses.
