Four-time All-Pro defensive end Jared Allen will make a decision sometime this weekend on whether he will accept the Seahawks offer. Earlier today, ESPN reported Allen had agreed to sign with the Seahawks, and was in the process of finalizing a contract.
Allen on Thursday made his second visit to Seattle in less than a week. He also visited the Dallas Cowboys this week.
Allen, 31, had 11.5 sacks last season for the Minnesota Vikings and has averaged just under 13 sacks per season over his 10-year career.
Signing Allen would improve what was already a formidable defensive line. The Seahawks re-signed defensive end Michael Bennett last week. Cliff Avril is also returning. Seattle cut veteran Red Bryant.
Allen, Bennett and Avril combined for 28 sacks, 8 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and a touchdown in 2013.
The Seahawks also re-signed free agent defensive tackle Tony McDaniel, but lost Clinton McDonald to Tampa Bay.
The Seahawks would represent the best opportunity Allen may ever have to win a Super Bowl. He has been on winning teams in five of his ten seasons and made it as far as the NFC Championship Game once in 2009 when the Vikings lost to the New Orleans Saints.
