PORT ORCHARD, Wash. -- The South Kitsap, Wash., School District and its teachers say they have reached a tentative contract agreement.

The school district said in a statement late Friday that if the pact is ratified by the school board and the South Kitsap Education Association it would avert a teachers strike.

Union negotiators say teachers will meet Tuesday to learn details and vote.

Details were not released.

Meanwhile, The Seattle Times reports that negotiations are continuing between Seattle Public Schools and its teachers union. Classes in Seattle are scheduled to start Wednesday.
