Seattle police are investigating a fatal motor scooter collision that happened on the Alaskan Way Viaduct Thursday afternoon.

Police say just before 3 p.m. a man riding a 500 cc Aprilia motor scooter was heading northbound on the viaduct. As he approached South Jackson, the 52-year-old man struck the guard rail and was ejected from his scooter.

Seattle Fire Department responded to the call and determined the rider died at the scene.

Seattle police shut down all northbound lanes of the viaduct for several hours while they conducted their investigation. Lanes on the Alaskan Way Viaduct reopened around 7:15 p.m.

The collision is the second fatal motorcycle/ motor scooter incident on the viaduct this week. The first fatal motorcycle accident happened around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. Police say a man riding a Triumph motorcycle struck a guardrail and was ejected from the motorcycle. Speed may have been a factor.
