ROCHE HARBOR, Wash. -- An 85-foot yacht carrying 1,600 gallons of diesel fuel was raised from Roche Harbor at San Juan Island on Friday.

The yacht sank after it caught fire on Wednesday. No one was injured in the fire and no other vessels were damaged. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Spilled fuel was being collected with oil absorbent materials and efforts were being made to pump the remaining fuel from the vessel tanks, said responders with the Washington State Department of Ecology. The Roche Harbor Marina also installed an oil spill containment boom in the marina as a precaution when the fire started, as did the Islands' Oil Spill Association, a local spill response contractor.

The Washington State Department of Ecology oversaw oil containment as a contractor raised the vessel on Friday.
