Admit it - many of us feel completely lost without our smart phones 24-7, but that dependence could be a good thing when it comes to kicking another addiction: smoking.

In the first study of its kind, Fred Hutchinson psychologist Jonathan Bricker is testing two different quit- smoking apps for iPhones.

The magic of a smart phone is that you can get tips for quitting right in the palm of your hand and you can be able to access your phone whenever you feel an urge to smoke, said Bricker, and that's what makes this technology really different from all of the ways of trying to quit smoking.

The hope is that smokers will eventually reach for their phones instead of a pack of cigarettes.

To be eligible for the smart quit study you have to be at least 18 years old, have been smoking at least five cigarettes a day for the past year, want to quit and have an iPhone.

At the end of two months, participants will be paid $25 for completing a follow-up survey.
