The state Lands Commissioner runs the Department of Natural Resources, managing more than 5 million acres of state land that generates a quarter billion dollars a year -- money that mainly supports counties and schools.

Peter Goldmark was elected to the office in 2008 and he's seeking a second term, running against Clint Didier.

One is a rancher from Okanagan who has found a home in the highest levels of government in Olympia (Goldmark).

The other is a rancher from Eltopia, a Super Bowl winner and losing 2010 candidate for the state GOP's U.S. Senate nomination (Didier).

Neither man has a lot of patience with the other.
