SEATTLE -Asea lion that was resting on Seattle's Golden Gardens beach and was rescued on Monday afternoon has died.
Marine experts took the older male, nicknamed Golden, to a Department of Fish and Wildlife facility in Lakewood to assesshis condition.He died overnight.
The plan had been to take the sea lion to Point Defiance Zoofor care and study.
The sea lion appeared at Golden Gardens in Ballard on Sunday night.A barrier was set up to keep people away.
Robin Lindsey of Seal Sitters came to monitor the sea lion and set upthe protective barrier.
We just need to let him rest. We'll have people on and off and hopefully people here in Ballard as well just kind of keep an eye on him, she said.
Heappeared to be at least 100 poundsunderweight.
According to the Seal Sitters Web site, sea lions should be bulked up this time of year in preparation for their long migration back to breeding grounds in California.
A necropsy will be done to determine the cause of death.
