Michael Konopasek is an Emmy Award-winning journalist who joined KING 5 News as a general assignment reporter in July 2014.
Before joining KING 5, Konopasek spent three years in Oklahoma City as a reporter at KWTV News 9. During his time in Oklahoma, Konopasek covered numerous tornado outbreaks, including the deadly 2013 Moore tornado. He was the first journalist to report live from the heart of the destruction path moments after the EF5 twister devastated the Oklahoma City suburb. In 2014, Konopasek was awarded a regional Emmy Award for his role in KWTV's continuing coverage of the disaster.
Prior to his time at KWTV, Konopasek worked as a reporter at WPTA/WISE in Fort Wayne, Indiana, as well as WTVW in Evansville, Indiana. He is originally from the Northwest Indiana suburbs of Chicago and is a former Chicago tour guide who loves history and trivia.
Konopasek is a proud graduate of Ball State University. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in telecommunications and a minor in political science. During his time at Ball State, he worked in radio at WMDH-FM and Indiana Public Radio. He also worked for Muncie PBS affiliate, WIPB-TV, as host of the long-running, Emmy Award-winning television show, Connections Live. He officially began his television career as an intern at ABC 7 Chicago, WLS-TV.
Konopasek is a member of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the Radio Television Digital News Association. He is proud to be in the Pacific Northwest and is interested in hearing from you!
