Denise Treat says she got this "awesome" chili recipe from The Seattle Times probably 20 years ago. She snapped the photo above of a batch brewing in her crock pot.
Smoky Sausage Chili
Ingredients:
1 Pound Ground Beef
1 Large Onion, Coursely Chopped
2 Teaspoons Chili Powder
2 Teaspoons Ground Cumin
½ Pound Smoked Sausage or Kielbasa, Sliced ¼ Inch Thick, Each Slice Halved
(I like to each slice into ¼)
1 Can (16 oz) Kidney Beans, Drained (I Also Rinse Them)
1 Cup Pace Picante Sauce
1 Cup Vegetable Juice Cocktail
1 Can (8 oz) Tomato Sauce
Optional Toppings:
Sour Cream
Shredded Cheddar Cheese
Onion
Diced Avacado
Directions:
Brown ground beef with onion in large saucepan, drain. Sprinkle chili powder and
cumin over meat; cook and stir 1 minute. Add remaining ingredients except optional
toppings; bring to boil. Reduce heat; simmer uncovered 20 minutes, stirring
occasionally. Ladle into bowls; top as desired.
Makes 6 servings, about 7 cups chili.
My Personal Direction Modifications:
Brown ground beef, drain and rinse and then sprinkle the chili powder and cumin over
meat and cook and stir 1 minute.
Saute smoked sausage/kielbasa with onion.
Put all ingredients in crockpot and cook for desired time.
