BRISTOL, Conn. -- Gonzaga forward Kayla Standish was selected by the Minnesota Lynx in the second round (19th overall) of the WNBA Draft on Monday.
The Minnesota Lynx are the defending WNBA champions. They finished last season 27-7, taking down the Seattle Storm for the title. The Lynx open the 2012 regular season on May 20th at home against the Phoenix Mercury.
Standish, who was invited to the draft at ESPN headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut, led the Bulldogs with 16.4 points and 7.5 rebounds per game as a senior. She especially shined in the postseason, averaging 23 points and 6 rebounds per game while leading Gonzaga to its third straight Sweet 16.
This is the third straight year a Gonzaga player was picked in the WNBA Draft. Courtney Vandersloot was the third overall pick by the Chicago Sky last year, while Vivian Frieson was the first Bulldog ever drafted when she was selected by the Tulsa Shock in the second round in 2010.
