06:12 PM PDT on Thursday, August 31, 2006
ALGER, Wash. - NASCAR driver Tony Stewart flipped his car but was not seriously injured in the crash Wednesday night at Skagit Speedway.
He was taking part in a charity race on the dirt track with fellow NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne of Enumclaw.
The event raised $144,000 for Kahne's charity for ill and disadvantaged children.
A sold out crowd of 9,000 people attended the event and many collected autographs from Stewart and Kahne who will be at Fontana, Calif., this weekend for the next Nextel Cup race.
Stewart is the defending Nextel Cup champion and 8th in the standings. Kahne is 11th, trying to move up one spot in two remaining races to make the Chase for the Championship.
